Last book report.

Letter Essay 6, The recruit.

Dear teacher
I have recently read a book by Robert Muchamore, called ‘The Recruit’. It’s a very good book, and I’d certainly give it a 10. It’s part of a series called Cherub. It’s the first book in the series, and it introduces most of the main characters of the series. The main character is a blonde guy called James. James is very lazy, but also extremely clever at maths, like, he can work out giant maths problems in 3 seconds. James gets in to lot’s of trouble at school, when he pushes a girl, who was making fun of him. He didn’t realize, but there was a giant nail sticking out of the wall, and her face caught on it. He ran away from the school, and sat in a playground. When he got home, his mum was drinking, but she was taking pills, because she was massively obese. She ran a shoplifting network from her arm chair. James had to go and pick is sister, Lauren, up from school, and when they got back, his mum was dead on the couch. The next few chapters James is at a childrens home, and Lauren gets taken away by her step father, who doesn’t want james. James goes to his old house, and get’s in to his mums safe, and takes out 44,000 pounds. He keeps it all. One of the days, he wakes up, and he’s in a different home, and he walks around, and talks to the chairman, and finds out that he is at a child spy camp. James trains to become a spy, and has to go through the 100 day long grueling, basic training. James has to learn to swim in 3 weeks. He becomes a black belt, as many of the ‘Cherubs’ are. He learns Russian, and many of the Cherubs are fluent in 4 languages. After James passes basic training, with a very big struggle, he goes on his first undercover mission. This one involves bio terrorism, has some nature killing kids, and a bit of romance. I think that the author is writing about a very interesting topic, so that’s why his writing is so good. Here is an excerpt from the book.
A terrorist doesn’t let strangers in her flat because they might be undercover police or intelligence agents, but her children bring their mates home and they run all over the place. The terrorist doesn’t know that a kid has bugged every room in her house, cloned the hard drive on her PC, and copied all the numbers in her phone book. The kid works for CHERUB. CHERUB is not James Bond. There are no master criminals or high-tech gadgets. CHERUB kids live in the real world. They slip under adult radar and get information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail. For official purposes, these children do not exist.”
This basically tells you what Cherub is about, and why kids are useful. I think this is a good piece to use, as it tells you what to expect, and also excites you a bit. I’d suggest this book to people over 12, although, I read it in 5th grade, and understood it all.
I hope you consider reading it,

Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone
This book is certainly a 10, I’ve read it many times. Although it gets off to a rather slow start, it certainly makes up for it. I don’t know if I love it because I really like the idea of magic, and flying, or what, but it’s amazing.
Harry Potter, is an orphaned boy sent to live with his horrible Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and their fat, obnoxious, stupid and annoying son, Dudley.  Since Harry's parents were powerful witches before they were killed by an even more powerful wizard, lord voldemort, the most terrible wizard around. Harry is very likely to be a wizard, and his aunt and uncle don’t want him to find out, so they don’t tell him anything about his parents, and his past.
Many owls start appearing around the house, and harry receives many letters. He picks one up, but his uncle snatches it away. Harry knows there is something up, because his uncle nailed up the letterbox, and started burning many letters, in front of harry. One day, thousands of letters started flying through the fire place, and also through the letter box (it breaks through) he tries to run back in to his room under the stairs, but his uncle grabs him. After that, they move away to an island out at sea. Then on Harry’s 11th birthday, a giant called Hagrid, breaks down the door. He tells Harry that he’s a wizard, and also gives him a cake that he made. It was Hagrid who brought Harry to his uncle’s house when his parents died.
Here is a passage from the book.
"Harry's broom had given a wild jerk and Harry swung off it.  He was now dangling from it, holding on with only one hand. 'Did something happen to it when Flint blocked him?', Seamus whispered. 'Can't have', Hagrid said, his voice shaking. 'Can't nothing interfere with a broomstick except powerful Dark magic ...' Hermione gasped, 'Snape [Professor], look ... he's ... jinxing the broom'. Before Ron could say another word, Hermione had disappeared ... Hermione had fought her way across to the stand where Snape stood ... Reaching Snape, she crouched down, pulled out her wand, and whispered a few, well-chosen words,  Bright blue flames shot from her wand on the hem of Snape's robes.  It took perhaps thirty seconds for Snape to realize that he was on fire ... Scooping the fire off him into a little jar in her pocket, she scrambled back along the row -- Snape would never know what had happened.  It was enough.  Up in the air, Harry was suddenly able to clamber back on his broom." [p. 190-1]
This shows how amazing her word choice is, and it just adds to the brilliantness of the story. I suggest this to anyone to read.

Book reports (You can steal this shit) more than more

Dear Teacher teacher
I’ve recently read a book called Mockingjay, it’s the third in the Hunger Games series. It’s an absolutely amazing book, and is a perfect 10. The reason I think this is because it makes you want to shout at the main character sometimes, but it also makes you want to be with her and tell her it’s all going to be alright. The author is called Suzanne Collins, and she is amazing. She has great word choice, and her sentences flow amazingly well. You just can’t stop turning the pages, whilst I have been in bed, I’ve said to myself “OK, last page, then sleep” And I just haven’t been able to do it. I’d just keep on reading, just because there’s always something happening.
After her rescue by rebels, Katniss reluctantly agrees to become "the Mockingjay", a symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol. As part of a deal, she demands that the leader of District 13, President Coin, grant immunity to all of the winners of the Hunger Games. And the boy who she survived both of the hunger games with, Peeta, has been captured. The rebels manage to get him back, but he has been brainwashed to believe that Katniss is evil. Upon meeting him, he tries to strangle him. He slowly regains memories, and becomes his normal self. He remembers things, but he doesn’t know if they are true, so katniss just says true or false to help him. In the end, there is a really powerful line where Peeta says “You love me” And Katniss said “True” and then the book ends.

That makes two requests for Peeta's death in less than an hour. "Don't be ridiculous," says Jackson. "I just murdered a member of our squad!" shouts Peeta. "You pushed him off you. You couldn't have known he would trigger the net at that exact spot," says Finnick, trying to calm him. "Who cares? He's dead, isn't he?" Tears begin to run down Peeta's face. "I didn't know. I've never seen myself like that before. Katniss is right. I'm the monster. I'm the mutt. I'm the one Snow has turned into a weapon!" "It's not your fault, Peeta," says Finnick. "You can't take me with you. It's only a matter of time before I kill someone else." Peeta looks around at our conflicted faces. "Maybe you think it's kinder to just dump me somewhere. Let me take my chances. But that's the same thing as handing me over to the Capitol. Do you think you'd be doing me a favor by sending me back to Snow?" Peeta. Back in Snow's hands. Tortured and tormented until no bits of his former self will ever emerge again”

This is a part showing that Peeta is dangerous, and has been brainwashed, but also is regaining some more things, and able to make better decisions.

I recommend this book to people in 8th grade, as it is quite a graphic book, but you have to read the first 2 books for it all to make sense.

Letter essay 3- The Hunger Games

Dear teacher
I’ve recently read a book called the hunger games. It’s by Suzanne Collins. It’s absolutely amazing. I would rate this book a definite 10/10. Suzanne Collins has been able to capture the brutal world of the Hunger Games, whilst also capturing the romance and mystery between 3 of the main characters. The man character is Katniss, the 2 other main characters are gale, and Peeta. Katniss is 16, she lives with her mum and 12 year old sister, after their dad died in a mining explosion. Gale is 18, and supports his whole family. Peeta is 16 aswell. His family are bakers. They all live in a district 12. The whole place is what used to be north America. It’s now called Panem. There are 13 districts, but the 13th one has been destroyed by the Capitol. The reason for this is because they tried to rebel against the Capitol. Now the Capitol host the Hunger Games. A yearly event where 2 people are chosen at random from each district. A boy and a girl. When you are 12, you are entered once, and then every year you get older, you get another entry. You can also get yourself votes, as you get rice and oil for it. They get piled in to an arena, which is giant, and is like a forest. They get given weapons, and have to fight to the death, until 1 person remains victorious. Katniss’s sister is the name who gets called out for the girl tribute. Katniss immediately volunteers herself, as she doesn’t want her 12 year old sister in there. The other tribute is Peeta Mellark, the bakers son.
Quote from the book
"I'm coming back into focus when Caesar asks him if he has a girlfriend back home. Peeta hesitates, then gives an unconvincing shake of his head.

Handsome lad like you. There must be some special girl. Come on, what’s her name?" says Caesar.

Peeta sighs. "Well, there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I’m pretty sure she didn’t know I was alive until the reaping."

Sounds of sympathy from the crowd. Unrequited love they can relate to.

She have another fellow?" asks Caesar.

I don’t know, but a lot of boys like her," says Peeta.

So, here’s what you do. You win, you go home. She can’t turn you down then, eh?" says Caesar encouraging-ly.

I don’t think it’s going to work out. Winning...won’t help in my case," says Peeta.

Why ever not?" says Caesar, mystified.

Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. "Because...because...she came here with me."
This passage is a very important part of the book. It makes people love Peeta and Katniss, because now they are considered a couple. It also makes Katniss want Peeta to survive more.
I would recommend this book to people in 8th grade and above. The reason for this is because it has a lot of graphic violence in it.
I hope that you enjoy reading it.

Book reports (You can steal this shit)

Dear teacher,
Recently I have been reading a book called Mad Dogs, the author is Robert Muchamore. This is the 8th book in the CHERUB series. CHERUB is an organization that uses children as spies. The reason is because no one ever expects kids to be spies. The main character is James. He is working along with his friend Bruce, to become members of the gang Mad Dogs. A man called Sasha Thompson is the leader of it, he’s a notoriously brutal criminal. Mad dogs is the football team that Sasha runs, so most of the members of the gang have a kick about, then return to his basement for some poker and booze. The reason James is chosen for this mission is because of a mission he was previously on, where he was to befriend a drug barons child, Junior Moore. Junior has now gone off the rails, doing cocaine, weed and drinking a lot. He rarely goes to school. James makes friends with him again straight away. Bruce impresses Sasha with his amazing football skills. Bruce is a black belt at karate, so his hand eye coordination transfers beautifully on to a football pitch. James got involved with a hotel robbery with a 21 year old called Wheels. He’s an amazing driver. They sort of become business partners and they went and collected an unfair amount of rent from a shopkeeper. During this time, Wheel’s get’s his elbow smashed up by a girl trying to defend her dad with a cricket bat. James and Bruce get set up with a business of setting up surveilence on a hard front (Basically an enforced steel door, with a letterbox, money is passed through, drugs are passed out.)
After the surveillance, the whole gang raids it, just as they are getting a delivery of cocaine coming in. They steal the drugs and the cocaine. It’s the perfect crime, as the criminals can’t go to the police saying that their drug money has been stolen.
Sasha is planning out one big raid, but it’s to do with airports, so there’s a lot of security, and the workers there aren’t afraid to shoot if they think you’re dangerous. You’ll have to read the book to see what happens.
These are nice guys you’re gonna be meeting,’ Junior explained. ‘They put a lot of money my way, but don’t mess with them. Especially Sasha.’
‘Who’s Sasha?’ Bruce asked innocently.
‘Serious Gangster,’ Junior said. ‘I’m OK with him because he goes back to my dad and the old days, but he’s ruthless. He was in a country pub one time and this dude bumped in to him and called him a “clumsy ******”. Sasha had two of his boys drag him outside. They tied him to the bumper of a transit van and drove five miles before cutting what was left of him left.’
‘S***,’ James gasped. He’d read many similar stories about Sasha Thompson and the Mad Dogs, but this particular anecdote hadn’t appeared in the mission briefing.
-Chapter 24, page 189,190
I like this part because at the start, it shows what Junior is like, through the language he uses. Like saying “gonna,” it shows us that he is not posh. It shows that Bruce and James are well educated on the subject of the Mad Dog’s and Sasha Thompson. It shows that Sasha’s a scary man, because his men will do anything for him. It also shows that he’s very smart, and doesn’t get directly involved with anything illegal, by getting his guys to kill the man.
I would definitely rate this book a 10/10. I would recommend it to boys, but who are mature enough to handle sex, and swearing, there’s also some pretty good violence. I wouldn’t recommend it to people below 7th grade.

In case you ever needed it.

So I decided out of pure boredom (and not wanting to study for my exams) that I'd post my book reports. I've got 6 I think, and they're all plagurism free (The plagurised one I will not be posting) So they're all original work, so you probably wouldn't get caught for using them. I give all of you 100% permission to use them.

Dear teacher.
I have recently read a book called “A child called It” I think that maybe the title could be better, but regardless of that, it’s a definite 10.In the prologue, his school principal has informed the police that his mum has been beating him, and the nurse checks him over daily for bruises and injuries. His mum makes him lie about them every day, saying that they were all accidents.  In chapter 1, the boy has a perfect family. He has 2 brothers and has lovely parents. They live in a nice two-bedroom house. The live in San Francisco and can see the Golden Gate Bridge through the windows. Everything seems to be going good, but then it starts to turn bad.
The mother is taking food away from him, and is playing torture games with him. He is being made to keep his hands in scalding hot water. When he takes them out, the mother beats him. His breakfast is his brother’s leftover cereal; he gets a few pieces of cereal, and half a bowl of milk. His mum was a very talented cook, but she has turned bad. She doesn’t wear any make up, is always hung over and has gotten fat. She used to be perfect, but now with her change, her attitude and mood has changed.
The book is written in first person, and is a tragedy story, but also a story of hope. The boy feels hope when he gets to eat, he feels like he has won for that day. Here is an example from the book of one of these triumphs.
She’s trying to make the boy eat one of his brothers soiled diapers
I held my breath, the smell was overpowering. I tried to focus on the top corner of the diaper. Seconds seemed like hours. Mother must have known my plan. She slammed my face into the diaper and rubbed it from side to side. I anticipated her move. As I felt my head being forced down, I closed my eyes tightly and clamped my mouth shut. My nose struck at first. A warm sensation oozed from my nostrils. I tried to stop the blood from escaping by breathing in. I snorted the bits of defecation back up my nose with the blood. I threw my hands on the counter top and tried to pry myself out of her grip. I twisted from side to side with all my strength, but she was too powerful. Suddenly mother let go. “They’re back!” she gasped. Mother snatched a wash cloth from the sink and threw it at me “clean the shit off your face” she bellowed as she wiped the brown stains from the counter top. I wiped my face the best I could, but not before blowing bits of defecation from my nose. Moments later, mother stuffed a piece of napkin up my bloody nose and ordered me to sit in the corner. I sat there for the rest of the evening, still smelling traces of the diaper through my nose. The family never returned to Russian River.”

I like this part because it shows that if he tries hard, he won’t always have to do the terrible things his mum tries to make him do. This shows that he is very determined. It makes me feel good when I read parts where he wins and he doesn’t have to do what the mum says.
I think that it has quite good plot development, I like how it progresses towards freedom. What I don’t like how the start is when he is with the police, but then it goes back to his life with the mum and his family. It means that the whole book must be a flashback, which I find quite confusing, and not normally the way to write a book.
One of the saddest moments of the book was when the boy got stabbed, and then nobody cared. The mum threw a knife at him. Even though he was hurt terribly, the mum still made him work 20 minutes later. The mum did change the bandage and things like that for him. Probably because if the authorities found out, she could say she did as much as she could to help.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone who can handle sad stories. It is a very sad book, so is probably better for more mature readers.
Sincerely, Liam.

Shoulder

So today I dislocated my shoulder. I was practicing a stunt for P.E, which involved me jumping over someone, and landing on my hand, then doing a forward roll. It normally goes fine, but this time I got a bit freaked, and put my hands out, and landed smash on my shoulder. I went to the nurse to get some ice, and they said I was fine. I got home, and I was in agony. The doctor came and told me it's dislocated, and now I have to go and get it popped back in tonight. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Social Studies Project again

So I finally managed to finish my Social Studies project. It only took me about half an hour of decent work, but boy did it feel like longer. I should stop procrastinating though, as the project is 2 days late already. But the teacher should be alright with me, considering I've been away for the last, 4 or so classes with him. Ahh well, at least it's done.

Woopsie.

So I just got an email from a teacher regarding the work I plagurised. I just copied 3 paragraphs about a book, then edited most of it, and added more, but apparently that's still bad. I did it because I found out about the deadline the night before, and had like, 20 minutes to do it. It's not an excuse for it, but the school seem to take it pretty seriously. I do get a zero on the essay, but I can understand it. Ahh well, at least I've learnt from it.

Social Studies Project

So right now, I should be working on a Social Studies project, but instead, I'm on blogspot and Facebook. The project is very big, and I'm going to be missing the next 2 classes, so I'm screwed if I don't do well on this project, but I just can't find the will to do it. It's not a very interesting project, but I'm just plain lazy. Do you guys have any special techniques you use to help you stay interested in something, and to do your work?

Been ill

So the past 2 days or so, I've been feeling pretty crappy. I went home from school on tuesday, and got to stay at home on Wednesday. I have a 'fever' but that just means I've got a bit of a temperature, but I just couldn't work properly. I just felt "Down in the dumps, or, under the weather" As you'd say. I spent wednesday watching the Harry Potter movies, (It brought back so many memories) And then I watched some Mighty Boosh (Search it up, it's pretty funny) And Then watched Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith. It was great. But then I had to do work :( Which ruined it. Ahhh well, it was fun whilst it lasted.

Games to play with a brick. (Quite long, but funny)

Adding to the Blog.

I've spent a while trying to add new things to my blog, to make it more interesting, but none of it works as I'd want it to. I have some nice fishies that you can play with at the bottom, and bejewled on the side. There's also a penguin that is quite fun to poke.  I wanted Mario and A text to audio system (So you can make it say funny things) But it wasn't working properly. I hope you guys still find it interesting enough though.

I'll just add a funny picture so you guys are more likely to enjoy the blog :D

PSN being down

I find it quite funny that PSN is down, or at least, was down (I haven't checked in a while) I don't play much playstation anymore, so it didn't matter to me that it was down, but I know a few people who were totally raging about it. I hope that Sony can ensure that no ones personal details have been taken though. I also hope that they give out some big bonuses or something as apologies, maybe a triple XP week on MW2 or something fun.

Strange things I have eaten/put my mouth to

This year, I was on a trip with my school, and a few of my friends found a grasshopper in a glass of water. They dared me to do it, with a reasonable reward of 50 bucks if I ate it. So being the stupid person that I am, I decided to. It wasn't actually too bad. I never got these 50 bucks :(

When I was younger, I was out in the forest with my family, and my cousins were there. I'd always had a love/hate relationship with my cousin who was a girl, so I said "I'd rather kiss a snail than kiss you" So to emphasize my point, I picked up a snail, and kissed it right on the gooey part. Never again.

I was on the trampoline with some friends, and we found a lady bird. Apparently it would have been hilarious if I had eaten it, so I decided to. I didn't have any water, so I just had to swallow it (without biting of course) Not a great choice.

This weekend, I was out at a restaurant with my friends, eating Quail. We found the heart of the quail, and of course, it was me who was looked to to eat it. So yes, I ate it.

When I was out at an Indian restaurant with my grandparents, we ordered some fish. The fish came with skin on, and it's eyes still in tact. My grandad thought it would be hilarious if I ate the fish eye, so I did. I chewed it, and it was not a pleasant experience.

If I can remember any more, I'll blog about them, but for now, here's a GIF of Bear Grylls eating strange things.

Images and GIFs that I find funny :D

AdSense

I just added the AdSense thing to my blog, and I think it's a pretty cool idea. I like the idea of being able to make money doing something I enjoy, and also, having a well earning blog would be a great thing to put on a resume when applying for schools and jobs. I think it'll be a great feeling to see that first pay check, and I don't know what I'll do with it, but I'll certainly try and make it come fast. I'm going to try and make my blog interesting, and funny, so that people enjoy it.

AdSense took ages to get to work though, and I really hope it was worth the time, and effort.

Some pictures I took when I was away

Osama's dead, hmmm.

So everyone's raving about Osama's death, but is it really a good thing. Yeah, he killed loads of Americans, and it was a horrid thing to happen, but now what's going to happen? He's got a lot of loyal followers, and I won't be surprised when we start seeing revenge attacks, although Osama being killed was a revenge attack from America. I have friends at the American School in Lahore, and in Karachi, and I'm pretty worried for them, as it seems quite likely that a place like that would be targeted. I don't think that the celebrations outside the White House really helped, as that would have just infuriated Osama's followes even more. I'm sick of seeing all of the Facebook statuses saying "Yay, Osama's dead" Or "Americans killed Osama, they have to always ruin the fun!" (Yes, someone I know posted this, it's totally retarded) But I think having Osama captured, and then put in prison would have been more effective than having him killed. Also, where's the proof of his death? I know Obama has said it's happened, but I'd like to see pictures.
